This is a flag of the nation of the People's Republic of Songhai, a communist dictatorship located in West Africa. It is based on the alternate history here.
The Songhai Empire was originally an empire that occupied much of West Africa, until they were wiped out by a Moroccan invasion in 1591, after which they fragmented into the smaller nations we have now in OTL. In this alternate history, the Moroccan invasion force got lost in the Sahara, and the Songhai continues to exist to the modern day.
